About Hok-si-la Park & Campground
Hok-si-la Park & Campground sits on a 252-acre plateau above Lake Pepin. The park operates as a tent-only retreat 90 minutes southeast of Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Hok-si-la Park occupies a 160-acre plateau above the Mississippi River's Lake Pepin. The park originally hosted Hotel Russell in the late 1800s. A fox farm and a Boy Scout camp later occupied the land.
The City of Lake City purchased the park in 1973. The purchase agreement prevents overdevelopment and maintains the park's rustic character. The park's name comes from the Lakota word for 'boy' or 'young boy.'
The park enforces a tent-only camping policy. No wheeled vehicles or RVs are allowed on campsites. Nine sleeping cabins provide an alternative with electricity, heat, and air conditioning.
